Before it even began, the summer tennis season is over for Philippoussis. During practice Mark felt more pain in his knee and an MRI determined that he had a slight tear in the lateral meniscus of his left knee. This is the same injury that has plagued him since 1999 Wimbledon. On the 28th he underwent surgery in Melbourne and the prognosis is a good one. He will miss both the Hopman Cup and Australian Open, but plans his first tournament back to be a defense of his SyBase title. Read more about it in the many articles now linked.
