Australia is out of the Davis Cup, with a straight 3-0 defeat by Argentina. Mark had the first match on Friday against Nalbandian and was taken down 6-3, 6-3, 6-3. This was Mark’s first match on clay in almost two years and it showed with Mark making errors all over the place. Later defeats of both Hewitt and Arthurs & Henley meant Argentina has now taken Australia out of the Davis Cup two years in a row.
Australia’s Davis Cup semifinal match against Argentina is next week and Australia has formally announced their team which will include Mark, Lleyton Hewitt and doubles specialists Wayne Arthurs and Paul Hanley.
In interviews post-match Mark spoke of being pumped up for the Davis Cup semifinals against Agentina. He’s feeling healthy and is looking forward to getting in the team spirit. The semifinals will be September 22-24 in Parque Roca, Buenos Aires on clay. Mark also denied reports of a split between him and his father, saying that they still talk everyday and the reason for his father’s absence has been because Mark felt he wanted to give it a try on his own for a while.
