Congratulations Australian Davis Cup Team!!
December 5, 1999: Congratulations to Mark and the Australian Davis Cup Team for winning the last Davis Cup of the century! Mark helped the team to victory with wins over both Grosjean and Pioline. His Pioline win was the final match of the competition and he was carried off the court by fellow teammates. Lots of news articles and great photos!

December 2, 1999: The Davis Cup finals against France are set to begin this weekend. Philippoussis along with Hewitt, Woodbridge and Woodforde make up the Australian team. A few opening articles and photos of Mark in practice have been posted.

November 12, 1999: Gambill proved to be too much for Mark at the Stockholm Qaurterfinals with a 6-4, 2-6, 5-7 result.

November 11, 1999: Mark is through to the third round of the Stockholm Open, taking out Johansson 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (7-1). His 3rd round match will be against Jan Michael Gambill.

November 10, 1999: The Stockholm Open is under way and Mark started off by defeating Michael Change 7-6 (7-3), 4-6, 6-1.

November 5, 1999: Once again Agassi has proved too much for Mark. Mark lost 4-6, 1-6 despite several aces clocking in at over 124 mph. New articles and photos added.

November 4, 1999: The Paris Open is turning into an excellent tournament for Mark. Today he advanced into the Quaterfinals by defeating the 10th seed Tim Henman 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.

November 3, 1999: Mark has advanced into the third round of the Paris Open by taking out the No. 8 seed Richard Krajicek 705, 6-3. This makes it the best result so far on the comeback from the injury sustained at Wimbledon.

November 2, 1999: The Paris Open is underway and Mark has advanced into the second round by defeating Escude 6-4, 7-6 (7-4). He will next face Krajicek.

October 27, 1999: As thought, the top form of Agassi was too much for a comeback trail Mark. He went down 6-2, 6-4.

October 25, 1999: Mark is currently playing in the Eurocard Open in Stuttgart and has advanced to the second round by beating Pozzi 6-4, 4-6, 7-5. Unfortunately the draw did not favor him and he is set to meet Agassi in the second round tomorrow.

October 19, 1999: Mark's second tournament of his comeback didn't go the way he'd planned. As the 9th seed he had a bye through the first round, but Jim Courier eliminated him in the second 3-6, 6-3, 1-6.

October 14, 1999: The Scud is back. On Tueday the 12th, Mark returned to match play at the Heineken Open in Singapore defeating Bryan in the first round 6-4, 6-4. Unfortunately the lack of match play would prove his undoing in the second as he lost to Ljubicic 6-3, 5-7, 6-7 (6-8). All reports indicate the loss was due to lack of play, not any lingering knee problems and so things look back on track for Mark.

September 21, 1999: Several small updates to several pages. There are new links, new info in the faqs and even a whole new section of photographs!

September 7, 1999: A whole new section debuts today in the Archives and it's devoted to Frequently Asked Questions about Mark -check it out! Also added three new articles about his withdrawl from the US Open. Nothing has been printed, but during the US Open coverage on USA, it was mentioned that Mark was currently laid up with a sprained ankle from playing basketball. Given the lack of coverage it's gotten it's most likey safe to assume it's not a major sprain.

August 28, 1999: This just in, and brace yourselves it isn't good news. Mark has withdrawn from the US Open. It seems that the knee isn't back to where it can handle full match play. No more news is currently available as to when Mark will return, but hopefully these additional two weeks will help bring the knee back up to speed.

August 24, 1999: Unfortunately this update brings more bad news for Philippoussis fans. Mark was supposed to play today in the Hamlet Cup as a US Open warmup, but Dr Altchek refused to approve him for play. A decision will be made Friday or Saturday as to whether he will be cleared for the US Open.

August 18, 1999: The RCA Championships in Indianapolis bring us both some good news as well as some bad. Mark was the 5th seed and after a first round bye he played DiPasquale in the second. Unfortunaly it was not his night and he lost 3-6, 6-3, 1-6. But the good news is that the loss was more to his lack of match play for 6 weeks, not because of knee pain. A short news blurb quoted Mark as saying the knee held up well and that he plans to take a wild card into Long Island next week to get more match play prior to the US Open.

August, 10th, 1999: Finally a bit of good news to share. According to the Australian press, Mark's recovery from kneee surgery is on track and he is due to to return next week in Indianapolis. There are also new articles, photos and interviews in each section.

July 10th, 1999: Good news for Philippoussis fans! Though Mark will not be playing Davis Cup next week his post surgery reovery time is down to two weeks. The arthroscopic surgery was successful in trimming a small twist in the lateral meniscus that had doubled over in his knee joint. Due to the less seriousness of the injury Mark is expected to be back in top form to defend his appearance in the final of the US Open.

June 3rd, 1999: The results are in and they aren't terribly good for Philippoussis or for Australia in the upcoming Davis Cup match against the US. Mark has a tear in the cartilage in his left knee and will be undergoing surgery in New York on Tuesday the 6th. He is expected to be off the court for six weeks, thus missing the upcoming Davis Cup match and limiting his preparation time for the US Open. Here's hoping for a speedy and full recovery!

July 2, 1999: Philippoussis fans had their hearts in their throats during today's Quaterfinal match against Sampras. After taking the first set 6-3, two games into the second Mark came down awkwardly on his left knee and after some work by the trainer, Mark was forced to retire. At this time it isn't known just what the problem was, but Mark was headed to the local hospital for an MRI.
June 30th, 1999: Mark is once again though to the quaterfinals at Wimbledon with his defeat of Greg Rusedski 2-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3, 6-1. He will now face Sampras for a spot in the Semis.

June 28th, 1999: On the 25th Mark advanced into the 3rd round by defeat Clavet -5, 6-4, 6-4. He was scheduled to play a dangerous match against fellow hard server Rusedski today for a spot in the quaterfinals, however play was suspended for the day by rain during the first match of the day (Mark was to be the 3rd). Play will resume tomorrow. While you're waiting take a look through some new pictures and articles from the All England Club :)

June 23rd, 1999: Mark is now through to the third round with his defeat of countryman Mark Woodforde in four sets 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (7-5), 6-4. He will next face Francisco Clavet of Spain.

June 21th, 1999: Mark has advanced to the second round having defeated Malisse 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 6-3, 6-4. He will next face fellow countryman Mark Woodforde.

June 20th, 1999: Wimbledon begins tomorrow and thanks to the All England Club's policy of adjusting the seed rankings according to how they play on grass, Philippoussis has netted himself the 7th spot, though his current ATP ranking is 11. Mark starts his run with a first round match Monday against Xavier Malisse. Should he advance to the quarters, he will have to face Sampras, the No. 1 seed. Today's updates also include new photos and articles for the gallery, including a rather interesting look at the Scud from the 6/20/99 edition of The Age Melbourne Online.

June 10th, 1999: Countryman Hewitt proved to be too much for Mark today at Queens even though he managaed to win the first set in a tiebreak. Final score: 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, 2-6.

June 9th, 1999: Mark is in to the third round with a defeat of Jan Michael Gambill 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. His next match will be against fellow Australian Lleyton Hewitt.

June 8th, 1999: Stella Artois is under way this week in London and as the number four seek Mark received a bye into the second round. Happily Mark's early exit at the French did not cost him a placement in the rnakings, he starts this week remaining at the No. 10 spot.

May 24th, 1999: Though Mark lost his final match against Bjorkman 4-6, 6-7 (3-7), Australia was able to hang onto the title at the ATP World Team Championship. The French Open got under way today, though being in the bottom half of the draw means Mark's first match will be tomorrow where he faces a potentially dangerous match against Jason Stoltenberg.
