Mark will once again be playing World Team Tennis this summer. However, this year Mark was traded to the Boston Lobsters. Matches begin on July 7th and the exact schedule is expected in March.
Last week Mark also apparently played some kind of double exhibition match in Memphis as part of the U.S. National Indoor Championships. While there, he spoke to the press about wanting to speak to countryman Tomic to offer some career guidance. (Tomic is similar to Mark in being a young player with loads to talent who’s leading a crazy lifestyle off court and not focusing enough on his game). While in Memphis he also gave the following video interview with Lyndsay Davenport.
Mark will be playing World Team Tennis again this year. At the February 14th draft he was selected by the Philadelphia Freedoms whom he last played for in 2002. Matches start this July. Earlier this month, SurfImages caught Mark on the beach walking Mika and then catching some waves.
I’ve finally tracked down the results from Mark’s World Team Tennis matches with the Philadelphia Freedoms, but don’t expect me to explain them as I still have no idea just how they score them! On July 23rd against the NY Buzz, Mark won his singles match against Bower 5-1, in doubles he and Stark defeated Bhupathi & Bower 5-4(2) and with Steck lost in mixed doubles to Bhupathi & de Villiers 5-3. On July 25 against the Delaware Smash, Mark won his singles match against Goldstein 5-4(5-4), in doubles he and Stark defeated Goldstein & Humphries 5-4(5-2), and in mixed doubles he and Steck defeated Humphries & Reeves 5-3.
